MINI is proud to be an official partner of Team GB and ParalympicsGB on their journey to London 2012. MINI is now getting right behind British athletes, via our Performance Team. MINI dealers like us will be pairing up with local athletes, supporting their endeavours to qualify for Team GB or ParalympicsGB.
We are really chuffed to announce that we are now supporting local Judo players, Francesca Steggall and Ben Quilter, as they attempt to qualify for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, respectively.
Francesca and Ben train locally at the Dartford Judo Club. Sidcup-born Francesca has been a Judo player since the age of 4; Brighton-born Ben started at the age of 7. In 2010 both had made big accomplishments in Judo; Francesca achieved gold at the British Championships, while Ben won gold at the IBSA VI World Judo Championships in Turkey.
“We’re really grateful to Stephen James and MINI for their support,” said Francesca and Ben. “It’s tough trying to qualify for an Olympic place and it’s a big help knowing that they are behind us, helping to raise funds and awareness. It’s also fantastic having a brand new MINI Cooper SD Convertible from now until the end of the Games. There’s a lot of travelling to heats, competitions and promotional events so it’s great being able to arrive there in style.”
David Coleman, Dealer Principal at Stephen James Blackheath, said: “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to really get involved with the Games. Our staff and customers are keen to support London 2012 so we’re really happy to be backing Francesca and Ben – especially since they are both accomplished Judo players. Ben has become Britain’s first visually impaired Judo World Champion in 12 years, and Francesca is one of the top-ranked players in England in her weight category.”
